Milestone/cakesmash Session Prep Guide and what to expect


 Thank you for booking your milestone session with me! I’m so excited to capture these precious moments. Below is a guide to help you prepare for the session and ensure everything goes smoothly.

Choosing Outfits

  • Comfort is Key: Choose outfits your child feels comfortable in. Avoid anything too tight or scratchy.
  • Coordinate Colors: Select colors that complement the theme or backdrop. Neutral tones or pastels photograph beautifully, but feel free to include bold colors if they match your vision.
  • Avoid Busy Patterns: Simple outfits with minimal patterns tend to look best. Try to avoid large logos or graphics.
  • Accessories: Consider adding cute hats, headbands, or even a favorite piece of jewelry to enhance the look.


For the Family (If Joining):

  • Color Coordination: Pick outfits in a cohesive color palette. Neutral tones, soft pastels, or earthy colors often work best. Avoid everyone wearing the exact same color—blend complementary shades instead.
  • Simple and Timeless: Avoid busy patterns or bold logos. Solid colors or subtle prints photograph beautifully.
  • Texture and Layers: Add interest with textures like knits, lace, or layers (e.g., scarves, cardigans).
  • Comfort First: Choose clothing that allows you to move comfortably and interact naturally with your child.




Preparing Your Child

  • Talk About the Session: Get your child excited! Let them know it’s going to be fun and about capturing their special moments.
  • Rest & Snacks: Ensure they’re well-rested and have eaten before the session.


NECESSARY ITEMS TO BRING

  • water bottle / sippy cup (they get thirsty)
  • snacks (puffs or something they love to eat to stick in the cake)
  • favorite toys
  • favorite shows ready to go on iPhone or tablet
  • clean towel (for clean up) if needed
  • lotion
  • extra outfit
  • plastic bags for messy outfit



Preparing the Family

  • Relaxed Attitude: Stay positive and relaxed. Kids feed off our emotions, so if you're calm and upbeat, they will be too.
  • Well-Groomed: Ensure everyone’s hair, face, and nails are clean. For kids, keep hairstyles simple and natural.



Day of the Session

  • Arrive on Time: Plan to arrive early so we don't have to rush your child's session.
  • Clean and Tidy: Make sure their face, hands, nostrils and nails are clean. Hair should be styled but not overdone—natural looks are great!
  • Positive Energy: Kids feed off our emotions, so stay relaxed and upbeat.

 Props and Themes

  • If your session includes a specific theme, feel free to bring props that reflect your child’s interests—like balloons, books, sports items, or costumes.
  • Let me know if there’s a specific theme or idea you’d like to incorporate so I can plan accordingly.



What to Expect During the Session

  • I’ll guide your child through natural poses and prompts to capture their genuine personality.
  • If they’re shy, no worries! I have plenty of tricks to help them warm up and have fun.

No camera is allowed including smart phones to take pictures during the session.)


Sickness *******PLEASE READ******

IF you child wakes up sick with a snotty running nose, coughing, and/or fever not related to teething or seasonal allergies please call me ASAP to discuss options. I work with newborns and try to keep sickness out of the studio for the safety of my littlest clients. If you come to your session and your child is visibly sick (snotty/running nose, wet/nasty cough, or they are visibly

miserable, etc) you will be asked to leave and your session will be forfeit. You will be charged $99 session fee to reschedule.

PLEASE DO NOT BOOK A SESSION THE DAY AFTER/MORNING OF SHOTS!

If you contact me asap prior to coming in we can reschedule your session without penalty.

AFTER THE SESSION

You will have your gallery proof 1 week after your session via email for you to choose your favorites. Final retouched images will be delovered 2 weeks after receiving your favorite images.
